The geometric layout of the Cardwell Forestry road network prevails. Unsealed and demarcated by maturing conifer stands and harvested expanses. Headed for Cardwell Lookout, Attie Creek and Dead Horse Creek; the roadways narrow to single lane Forestry tracks. Mildly rough in sections with minor vegetation encrocachment. Continuing on are seasonally recharged stream crossings.

Unsealed single lane road surfaces can be dry and dusty; or wet, muddy and gritty; have sections of cobble rock float and pebbly to angular gravel; with unconsolidated road shoulders. Road surfaces maybe greasy, inundated with water; have rills, channels and vehicle wheel ruts.

Exiting the Cardwell Forestry plantation the flat winding sealed road passes rural homesteads; cattle grazing pasture; sugarcane farms; banana, citrus and exotic fruit orchards. Rural road surfaces are in good condition with mildly weathered, decomposed and potholed sections. Intersections may have loose pebble float and grit. At roadway margins, pebbles, grit and sand accumulate on consolidated road shoulders.

The Kennedy Valley floor yields panoramic views of the Cardwell Range escarpment covered in rainforest. Giving way to climatic mood, solar azimuth and shadows accentuate geologic features. The trail bike route is not technically challenging nor amenable to excessive speed. Return to Cardwell.
